Coach FAQ's

What cost is there to me as a Coach? You sign up at no cost. We provide many tools for you to use through the web site including a TrainingPeaks™ account for each athlete you are coaching (coming spring / summer 2011), video tutorials to help you explain various techniques to your athletes, a live calendar to see your upcoming appointments, a secure payment system for your athletes to reserve your time, and more. CoachMe simply gets paid a percentage of the hourly rate that the athlete pays.
What percentage of the hourly price do I get paid? This depends on the level of coaching, the hours you provide, your rating from your athletes, your training courses taken, your performance ranking in Triathlon and other factors that will be highlighted to you during induction. The payment scales will be clear to you when you sign up; including how you can increase the percentage of the hourly rate you will be paid. The remainder of the revenue goes toward the online tools, secure payment fees and other benefits to you and the athlete to ensure CoachMe works efficiently and adds value.
When do I get paid? You get paid every 14 days. Coached sessions that fall within 5 days of the pay date will only be paid if your athlete has visited the site and checked the box for a successful coached session. If not, that session will be paid at the following pay date. This will all be explained during your induction.
How many hours per week do I need to be available for? We ask that each coach offers a minimum of 8 hours per week, including week day and weekend time.
Who supports me as a coach? There will be lead coaches in your area; their role is to ensure that you are comfortable with the coaching sessions, tools to use and general conduct. Above the lead coaches will be regional coaches as well, plus online / phone coaches that can offer assistance. Customer service will be available for general administrative issues. We will also have training courses from many of the manufacturers of product such as bikes, wetsuits, nutrition etc., to ensure that you are up to date on their products use and benefits.
What if I am USAT certified? That is great! We welcome USAT certified coaches. Why not use CoachMe as your business site, utilizing our business tools to enable you to market yourselves, allowing you to focus more of your time on coaching athletes, rather than the business side of coaching.

How do athletes find me? Your profile will be loaded into the site and will be matched using our sophisticated rules engine, with the athletes searching locally for you. Once athletes are matched with you, they will be able to open your calendar on the CoachMe site and reserve your time. You will be contacted once this happens, enabling you to contact the athlete and confirm the appointment and expectations.
How do athletes know when I am available? You will log in and update your personal live calendar through the site, highlighting the times that you are free to train athletes. We ask that you keep the calendar up to date 7 days in advance at a minimum, however many of the athletes will want to reserve your time weeks in advance, so the further you can schedule, the more business you will get.
What happens if I get a really good review? Part of your payment is based on your athlete review status, therefore the more consistent and higher your reviews, the higher the percentage of the hourly rate you will be paid.
What happens if I have to cancel a session? You will be able to work with the athlete directly to see if you can find agreement on a new time. If you can, great, if not, depending on how close to the session you need to cancel, we may need to work with the athlete to ensure they feel satisfied with the options. We want to make sure the athletes are happy with the service; therefore we need to minimize the disruption to them. During induction this will all be fully explained.

What advancements are there for me? From a career standpoint, CoachMe offers you the ability to move from part time to full time coaching using all of our tools, marketing and payment sites. This allows you to maximize the revenue for yourself. As part of CoachMe you will be offered many training courses on product, some direct from the manufacturer. Options for USAT certification are being discussed so you can get certified if you wish, and we are planning to have many of the authors of the most successful tri books talk to us and offer training. From a career standpoint, as we grow as a community, we need more lead coaches, regional coaches and logistical staff; these are all areas for advancement within the community.
How do I sign up? Simple, click either ‘Coach Application’ from the left hand menu bar, or ‘get started now’ from the wanting to coach page. Complete the online profile, complete the introduction training courses, meet with your local lead coach, provide up to date insurance (A major insurance company has offered coverage for you, we can provide the information for your to use if you wish) and you are ready to start.
